Take Another Step

Words and music by Will Hale

Go to Top of Page

In life there are many paths and only one destination... Love.
I wrote this song for the First Annual Father’s Day Concert in 1994
to express my gratitude for the trail my father blazed,
allowing me to follow in his footsteps.

I can see the road to freedom
I can hear the winds of love calling my name

I’m going home Going home
Going home one step at a time

Take another step
Take another step in the good life
Take another step
Take another step in the good life

Joy is in the journey
Joy is in the journey
I’m going to heaven right now

Meet Me At The Library

Words and music by Will Hale

Go to Top of Page

Another fun acoustic version of the popular song
originally released on Will Hale’s CD, I Love Everything.

Meet me at the library that’s where I’m gonna be
Digging buried treasure where everything is free

Meet me at the library bring along a friend
Discovery and wonder the fun will never end

At the library
Imagination is all we need
At the library
Our minds will be free

Meet me at the library bring along a friend
Discovery and wonder the fun will never end

Wise Owl

Traditional

Go to Top of Page

Sometimes the most important part of music
is what you don’t play and how well you listen.

Wise old owl sitting on an oak
The more he sat the less he spoke
The less he spoke the more he heard
How nice to be a wise old bird
Who Who Who

Garden Song

Words and music by Dave Mallett

Go to Top of Page

The seeds of our heart’s desires often grow slowly.
When we grow a little each day, we don’t always notice
how much we have changed.

Inch by inch, and row by row
Gonna make this garden grow
All you need is a rake and a hoe
And a piece of fertile ground
Inch by inch, and row by row
God bless these seeds I sow
Please warm them from below
Till the rain comes tumbling down

Pulling weeds and picking stones
We are made of dreams and bones
I need a place to call my own while the time is still at hand
Grain for grain, the sun and rain
Make my way through nature’s chain
Tune my body and my brain to the music of the land

Chorus:

Plant your rows straight and long
Cover them with a prayer and a song
Mother earth will keep them strong
If you give them loving care
An old crow watching hungrily
From his perch on yonder tree
In my garden I’m as free as that feathered thief up there

Acorn Song

Words and music by Will Hale

Go to Top of Page

It’s easy to be optimistic when I can see
so much potential in the world.

I am a small acorn leaving my tall tree home
Tumbling down and down
Safe in my shell
Down to the ground

Deep in the ground I sleep
Taking my time in peace
Dreaming an acorn’s dream
I wake up to see
Now I’m a tree

Breathing the sun and rain,
Watching the seasons change
Feelings of joy inside
Expressing my thanks
To be alive

And as the years go by, standing a long long time
One day I realized
The forest is deep
The forest is wise

I Am a wise old oak standing so tall & green
Stretching my branches high
Growing in strength
Up to the sun

I am a small acorn leaving my tall tree home
Tumbling down and down
Safe in my shell
Down to the ground

Perfect World

Words and music by Will Hale

Go to Top of Page

I have found, to be a perfect human
I need to be willing to make a few mistakes and
accept myself knowing my intentions are always for good.

What if Jell-O only came in brown
What if rain fell up instead of down
Would it matter if chocolate were blue
Would it taste any different would it be harder to chew
Would it matter if I changed my name to Lance
Would it help if I moved to England or maybe... France
Because wherever you go... there you are
Hmmm think about it...

Would it make you happy to live in paradise
Can you picture yourself and everyone else in a perfect world
Where? In a perfekt world
Cause you can always make it beter in a perfect world

What if everyone always loved you
What if no one ever judged you
Would you want someone to reach out and touch you
Or would you be happy just to have someone to talk to
What if a smile could pay for anything
What if dandelions were the most precious of all things
Would we still have to go to work
What if our only job is to live our own life
Hmmm think about it...

Have You Ever Felt Like Crying

Words and music by Will Hale

Go to Top of Page

Inspired by my nephew Zack when he was five and running around the living room.
He accidentally Slammed! face first into the wall. He tried to be brave but like the song says
“when it hurts you know it hurts”. Luckily tears can also spring from overwhelming joy!

Have you ever felt like crying and the tears get stuck inside your eyes
Have you ever felt like crying and the tears get stuck inside your eyes
When it hurts you know it hurts and the pain you cannot deny

Still you try to keep from crying tormented by the way you feel
So you try to keep from crying But you can’t hide the way you feel
When everybody knows Yes they know
Cause pain is one thing we can all understand

Have you ever felt like crying and the tears get stuck inside your eyes
Have you ever felt like crying and the tears get stuck inside your eyes
When it hurts you know it hurts and the pain you cannot deny

Then your heart breaks open
and there’s nothing you can do ‘cept start to cry
Then your heart breaks wide open
and there’s nothing you can do ‘cept start to cry
Once the tears dry on your face Life can begin to get better again

When I was a kid my family would sing this song in the car on the way to Grandma Hale’s house. My dad boasted that he went to school with Addy. He said she had many friends because she was so unique.

Adalena Madalena Whoopa Steina Whoppa Lina
Hokum Pokem Stokem was her name.

She had two eyes in her head
One was green and the other red... Chorus

She had two teeth in her mouth
One pointed north and the other pointed south... Chorus

She had two ears on her head
One was tin and the other was lead... Chorus

She had two nostrils in her nose
One was clogged and the other was froze... Chorus

She had ten fingers on her hands
And they all stretched like rubber bands... Chorus

Hammer Ring

Traditional

Go to Top of Page

Work songs have a good steady beat. Like the rhythm
of our heartbeat, they can bring comfort to our lives
and make our work a little easier.

I’ve got a nine pound hammer gonna Let it ring
I’ve got a nine pound hammer gonna Let it ring
I’ve got a nine pound hammer gonna Let it ring
I’m gonna let my hammer ring

My hammer’s singing freedom Let it ring (repeat)

I’m gonna ring it in the morning Let it ring (repeat)

My hammer’s strikin’ fire Let it ring (repeat)

Can you holler a little louder now Let it ring (repeat)

My hammer’s getting heavy gonna Let it ring (repeat)

I’ve got a nine pound hammer gonna Let it ring (repeat)

I Am Free, I Am Unlimited

Words and music by Janet Bowser Manning

Go to Top of Page

This song captures the spirit of a speech Martin Luther King
gave using three small words to express his message ?All Here Now.?

I Am free, I Am unlimited
There are no chains that bind me
I Am free, I Am unlimited right now right now
I Am free, I Am unlimited
There are no chains that bind me
I Am free, I Am unlimited right now right now

You are free, You are unlimited
There are no chains that bind You
You are free, You are unlimited right now right now
You are free, You are unlimited
There are no chains that bind You
You are free, You are unlimited right now right now
Words and music by Janet Bowser Manning
We are free, We are unlimited
There are no chains that bind Us
We are free, We are unlimited right now right now
We are free, We are unlimited
There are no chains that bind Us
We are free, We are unlimited right now right now

Elizabeth Cotton’s guitar playing style continually inspires me.
In the spirit of traditional music I added a few bits to her arrangement.

Snowfall

Music by Will Hale

Quite possibly the first song I wrote. It was a lovely winter evening and big fluffy snow flakes were falling gracefully outside my window. This song sounds a lot like it looked.

May The Road

Traditional Irish words, music by Nickomo

From the beginning of time, movement, song and story have brought people together. The Peace Greeting Dance and May The Road are from The Dances of Universal Peace which are part of this timeless tradition.

May the road rise with you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
May the rain fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May Love hold you in the hollow of her hand
